Laughter on the 23rd Floor
August 25 - September 9, 2017

by Neil Simon

From Carol Burnett to Red Skelton, comics agree that writing a weekly comedy TV show is anything but easy. And no one knows this better than critically acclaimed television writer turned Pulitzer prize winning playwright, Neil Simon. In the Broadway hit, Laughter on the 23rd Floor, Simon delves into the world of comedy writing, and his time working alongside the likes of Mel Brooks, Carl Reiner, Selma Diamond, Larry Gelbart and, of course, the great Sid Caesar. This hysterical (and at times touching) love letter to television's golden age takes a look at the chaos and hilarity that goes off camera.

"One of [Simon's] funniest...Comedy, comedy all the way." - Newsweek
"Old style comedy: fast and furious." - The Wall Street Journal

by Aaron Sorkin

If you can handle the truth, get ready for the electrifying original Broadway play that became the legendary Oscar-nominated film starring Jack Nicholson and Tom Cruise. This Broadway hit about the trial of two Marines for complicity in the death of a fellow Marine at Guantanamo Bay sizzles on stage. The Navy lawyer, a callow young man more interested in softball games than the case, expects a plea bargain and a cover-up of what really happened. Prodded by a female member of his defense team, the lawyer eventually makes a valiant effort to defend his clients and, in so doing, pays tribute to the honor of the men and women who serve this country in uniform.

Named one of the most produced musicals in America according to American Theatre Magazine, Always…Patsy Cline is more than a tribute to the legendary country singer who died tragically at age 30 in a plane crash in 1963. The show is based on a true story about Cline's friendship with a fan, Louise Seger, who befriended the star in a Texas honky-tonk in l961, and continued a correspondence with Cline until her death. Complete with down home country humor, true emotion and even some audience participation, the musical includes many of Patsy's unforgettable hits such as "Crazy", "I Fall to Pieces", "Sweet Dreams" and "Walking After Midnight" … 27 songs in all. The show's title was inspired by Cline's letters to Seger, which were consistently signed "Love ALWAYS… Patsy Cline."

*At the Pollard, we strive to tell stories that will speak to all of our audience - but with such a diverse audience base, no one story will be right for everyone. We encourage you to research each title and decide for yourselves if it is a show you would appreciate.
